About Us

Opportunity School is more than your typical child care. Opportunity School helps meet the needs of children and families with high quality, early childhood education and caring family support. We support today's workforce with high quality child care, while we help to build our future workforce by giving young children the learning and care they need. We operate two campuses in Amarillo. We are focused on providing the best learning and care for children in our community, especially those living in poverty.

Opportunity School's Central Campus in downtown Amarillo (within First Presbyterian Church) is nationally accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Our Grand Street Campus is an Early Head Start and Head Start Campus. Daily meal service and snacks are provided in partnership with the High Plains Food Bank Kids' Cafe. Fresh, homemade food is prepared for all ages to meet the nutritional needs of our young students. Our full-time speech therapist works with children at both of our campuses to help enrich their learning and language development. Fees vary depending on age of child and income level. Scholarships may be available depending on funding.

Opportunity School provides…
affordable, high-quality, early childhood education and caring family support during the early years – from birth to five – primarily to children from low-income families at two campuses in Amarillo. We are a Texas Rising Star 4-Star provider, accept CCS and have a sliding scale based on income.

Opportunity School is…
a nonprofit organization in Amarillo, Texas, created in 1969 by volunteers from First Presbyterian Church to address a community need – children who lacked basic learning skills and experiences entered school unprepared for academic achievement, and many never caught up to their peers.  Opportunity School has been able to provide nearly 5,000 young at-risk children with opportunities to learn and receive an excellent foundation for school and life for more than 50 years.

Opportunity School exists because…
research shows that high quality early learning experiences help children achieve success in school and in life.

Opportunity School believes in excellence for early learning …
early learning creates a foundation for a lifetime. Opportunity School is one of only two nationally-accredited preschools in the Panhandle and was named the first No Excuses University preschool in the U.S. We are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children
